I'm David Galvin, an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame.
Notre Dame is located in South Bend, a town of about 100,000 in north central Indiana. It's been my home now for nearly ten years, during which time it has worked its way firmly into my heart.
This blog is intended as a celebration of the many faces of the South Bend area. I'm creating it for my Spring 2017 class "Finite Mathematics," as a way to encourage the class to bond with the area that will be their home for four years (most students in Finite Mathematics are first years).
The "41" in the title refers to the 41 meeting times per semester of a typical Notre Dame undergraduate class, and this blog will end up having 41 posts, each one focussing on a different aspect of the area that is special to me. I plan to spend a few minutes of each class on the topic of the latest post.
Please enjoy, and feel free to make suggestions/corrections!
